Make Sure To Get
The Best One That You Can

It is extremely important that you pay attention to the details when choosing a cage for your parrot. It will become his parrots house and you will have a much happier and healthier bird if you get the best one that you can afford .

Getting your parrot settled at home is the first component in the owner-parrot relationship. You will go a long way towards establishing the  best possible environment for this by introducing him to an inviting parrots house.

Since exercise is extremely important for a parrot’s mental as well as physical health, it is crucial that your cage comes with  perches and swings. These will encourage your parrot to move about the cage, providing more exercise and a  happier bird.  Don’t think that perches and swings are enough though. Be sure to supply some stimulating toys to exercise your parrot’s intellect as well!

Purchase the largest cage you can afford. The very minimum size would be one that allows your parrot to FULLY stretch his wings. Just remember that there’s no such thing as a cage that’s TOO big.

Safety is equally important when selecting housing for your parrot. Make sure that your cage is sturdy. Parrots are very active birds and need a sturdy cage to keep them secure.

No parts of the cage should be loose or able to be easily loosened by one of these very intelligent birds! Also make sure that the bars of the cage are the correct distance apart for the size of your species of parrot. Getting their head stuck can end up being fatal.

Cages can be made of different types of metals. Stainless steel is my personal preference since it doesn’t rust, is very sturdy and won’t be toxic for your parrot. Just make sure that whatever material you choose that it is properly constructed.

Your parrots house should have an easily removable “litter tray” to make it convenient to clean. Birds can be messy creatures and it’s best to clean their homes regularly. We all know that the easier it is to do, the more likely we are to do it!

Casters are another good feature to have on the cage. Since parrots do best with plenty of interaction and stimulation, casters will make it easy for you to move the cage from place to place. This will afford your bird the opportunity to be where the action is.

Another consideration is ease of access, both for feeding and for getting your parrot in and out of it’s home. Make sure both the bird door and feeder doors are easy to open and close and of a size that  makes them comfortable to work with.

A parrot’s cage is its home while it is with humans. And we all know that our home is our castle. The same holds true for your parrot. It  is central to its physical and psychological well being. Be sure to think long term when you choose your parrots house!
