Parrot Aviaries Create Healthy,
Happy Parrots

What are parrot aviaries?  They are large-sized enclosed spaces that enable parrots to fly around, explore and be in a more natural habitat.

Although aviaries are sometimes described as flight cages, flight cages are not necessarily aviaries.  Flight cages are large cages with enough room in them for birds to fly.

Aviaries, on the other hand, are more than just a flight cage, often providing a more natural habitat and/or “recreational area”.

There are indoor, outdoor and balcony aviaries that pet owners can choose from based on their living situation and where they have space available to them.

The first time you are likely to encounter an aviary in your parrot journey is when you are looking for a breeder from whom to purchase your pet.

Many parrot breeders emphasize the fact that their birds are kept in aviaries rather than cages to show that their pairs have been mated in a natural environment.

Aviaries with plants and shrubbery can recreate a natural setting.  Parrots in this type of setting are likely to be happier and less stressed. This greatly reduces the incidences of destructive behaviors like feather plucking and self mutilation.

Birds that have the opportunity to spend time in parrot aviaries are much happier and more well adjusted.

As your parrot settles in at home, an aviary can be a wonderful way for it to lead a close to “natural” life allowing you to sit back and enjoy your companion without worrying about if you are getting him out often enough for exercise.

Parrot aviaries allow birds to get exercise and experience a natural rate of development.

Because of an aviary’s larger size you can divide it into different areas for your parrot to explore.

You can also stock an aviary with interesting larger toys that can provide different types of mental stimulation. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination in terms of how you decorate your parrot aviary.

Parrot aviaries offer a natural setting, physical exercise, possibility of regular flight and variety of areas to explore, adding up to the best benefit for any caring parrot owner – a happy and well-adjusted parrot!

You might think that parrot aviaries can only work for commercial breeders and while they are attractive, it may not be practical for you to have one at home.

This is not necessarily the case.  Indoor and outdoor aviaries are available in many sizes and price ranges. There are even balcony aviaries for those who live in apartments.

A balcony aviary can allow your parrot to feel like it is outdoors without your having to take it outside.

You can choose from walk-in aviaries, which you can enter and be part of your parrot’s environment, or the others with smaller doors which you can observe from the outside.

Given the wide range of options available it is likely that there is something in the market to meet any need.

Whichever type you choose, it is a certainty that parrots thrive in parrot aviaries!
